Charming Cotswolds - Autumn Colours

Scenic Drives

Nestled in the heart of England, the Cotswolds, with its rolling hills, historic towns, and ancient stone cottages, is the epitome of rustic charm. While the allure of this region remains consistent throughout the year, there’s something undeniably enchanting about the Cotswolds in autumn.

As the warm hues of summer give way to the golden browns, burnt oranges, and fiery reds of our favourite autumn colours, the landscape transforms into a painter’s dream. The air, crisp and invigorating, carries with it the sweet aroma of fallen leaves and wood smoke from distant

Itinerary

DAY 1 - After joining your holiday coach, head to Stow on the Wold where time will be allowed for lunch and sightseeing. At nearly 800ft, Stow is the highest of the Cotswold towns, located on the Roman Fosse Way and at the point where several roads meet, hence an important trading centre. It has a long history, it probably dates from a prehistoric fortified settlement on top of the hill and had a special importance in the English Civil War, the last battle was fought close by in Donnington back in 1646. St Edward's Church, was used as a prison for the defeated Royalist troops, as it was the only lockable building in the town. Some of the damage sustained at this time can still be seen today. Arrive at your hotel for the next 3 nights, dinner & breakfast included.

DAY 2  Included Excursions

Batsford Arboretum & Moreton in Marsh

Batsford Arboretum is known for its vast collection of trees and shrubs, where you can see everything from vibrant maples to glowing oaks. The arboretum is home to one of the UK’s finest tree and shrub collections. As the seasons change, it becomes a riot of colours, with red maples, golden oaks, and everything in between, making it a must-visit for nature lovers. Café – Garden Centre & Gift Shop – admission included.

Nearby Moreton in Marsh makes a superb addition to the day – located at the head of the beautiful Evenlode Valley, Moreton in Marsh is a thriving market town, dating back 1000 years to the Saxon era. Its broad High Street is lined with elegant 17th and 18th century buildings, among them the White Hart Royal, a former manor house in which King Charles I sheltered during the Civil War. Returning to the hotel mid-late afternoon.

Day 3 – Scenic Cotswold Drive. Heading towards Snowshill enjoying the scenery and Autumn Colours onto Broadway where a stop will be made. Often referred to as the 'Jewel of the Cotswolds', Broadway village lies beneath Fish Hill on the western Cotswold escarpment.  The pretty High Street is lined with horse chestnut trees and includes a mixture of period houses & picturesque honey coloured Cotswold stone cottages which have lured visitors for centuries.  Time here to look around and refreshments before continuing onto Shipston on Stour. This charming historic and thriving town has many interesting and unusual features.. It is becoming increasingly popular with tourists due to its wonderful mixture of shops, pubs, restaurants and hotels.  Cream Tea included today.

DAY 4 - After breakfast drive the short distance to Bourton on the Water. Known as the 'Venice of the Cotswolds' due to the many bridges that cross the River Windrush as it flows through the village centre, Bourton-on-the-Water is one of the most picturesque villages in the Cotswolds. Free time here before continuing onto interchange and your home towns.
