 Beamish and Whitby Holiday Itinerary

Day One :

Coach travel to your Teesside area hotel

Leaving the local area in the early morning, we head towards the County Durham/Teesside area and our weekend hotel. We'll make comfort stops along the way, and should arrive at the hotel in good time for dinner.

Day Two :

Travel on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway to Whitby

This morning we head to Grosmont for a journey on one of the longest preserved lines in the UK - the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. We'll ride through farmland, forests and heather-clad moors, and past pretty villages, following George Stephenson's original 1836 route to Pickering.

We will spend the afternoon in the seaside town of Whitby. Explore the bustling lanes leading down to the harbourside, visit the Captain Cook Memorial Museum or simply enjoy the views. The really energetic may like to climb the 199 steps to the abbey ruins and St Mary's Church, which is said to have inspired Bram Stoker to write "Dracula".

Day Three :

Visit Beamish Open Air Museum

After a full English breakfast, we'll head to Beamish Open Air Museum. Set in 300 acres of beautiful countryside, this award-winning museum vividly recreates life in the North in the early 1800s and 1900s.

Spend a fascinating day strolling the cobbled streets of the market town (complete with shops, school, sweet factory and dentist), discovering early 19th-century rural life at Pockerley Manor and the full-size, working replicas of a 'lost locomotive' and Stephenson's Locomotive No 1 at the 1825 Pockerley Waggonway. Visit the Colliery Village drift mine, and see a working pre-WW1 farm at Home Farm.

Day Four  :

Explore Harrogate and head home

Today we'll visit Harrogate. Discover the graceful architecture, colourful gardens and shopping of this vibrant town, which also boasts a thriving cafe culture. Don't miss world-famous Betty's Cafe Tea Rooms, which offers a staggering choice of breads, cakes and chocolates as well as 50 different teas and coffees.

After time to explore, shop and perhaps have lunch we'll begin the journey home, arriving in the mid-to-late evening.
